Irene Goodman Memorial Scholarship

The Mothers Club of Wheatley Heights will present a scholarship to a qualified high-school senior of African descent who is active within the community, exemplifies kindness to others as well as perseverance, exercises sound moral judgment, and is devoted to educational enhancement. Our dear sister member Irene Goodman embodied these attributes, and we will continue her legacy through the Irene Goodman Memorial Scholarship.

Due to the disruption in our educational system caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are extending the application deadline for the Irene Goodman Memorial Scholarship to June 15, 2020. All applications must be received or postmarked by this date.

Application Requirements

All applicants must meet the requirements noted on the application, and all applications must include the following:

A typed, one page personal statement regarding your community involvement or service
A letter of recommendation from a community leader, teacher, mentor, or clergy person who can attest to your community service and character
An official high school transcript noting a GPA of 2.5 or above
A recent photo of the applicant

Incomplete applications will NOT be considered

The Mothers Club of Wheatley Heights will award a total of five (5) scholarships.

Please note that there are TWO different applications. Please be sure to use the correct application for the school that the applicant attends.

Application 1

Applications will be accepted from and a scholarship will be awarded to one student from EACH of the following four (4) schools:

Half Hollow Hills HS East
Half Hollow Hills HS West
Deer Park High School
Wyandanch Memorial High School

Application 2

In addition, students from the following schools ONLY may apply for one (1) additional scholarship, which will be awarded to a student from ONE of the following schools:

Walt Whitman High School
Central Islip High School
